Say it with doughnuts this Christmas

MANILA, Philippines - Christmas is a great time to spread the love this Yuletide season, and if you aren't the type to say it outright, you can do it through food. Yes, food. After all, "The way to a man's heart is through his stomach."

A doughnut place in the city has taken this maxim to heart and is offering letter doughnuts--doughnuts shaped in the alphabet--which customers can use to convey their special messages, such as "I love you."

So while every other doughnut place is selling doughnuts in all shapes and colors and sizes, Cello’s Doughnuts and Dips allows customers to get personal.

Since the letter doughnuts take a day to prepare, customers need to place their orders at least 24 hours before pickup. There is no minimum or maximum number of letters required per order.

Customers can choose any of the shop's original flavors (Oreo, Cheese, M&M, Chocolate, Peanut Butter, Strawberry, Caramel, Chocnut, Chocolate Sprinkled, Honey Glazed, Sugar Glazed, Candy Sprinkled, Choco-Oreo, Peanut Butter Oreo, Double Chocolate, and Chocolate Chip Peanut Butter) for the letter doughnuts.

Life partners Cello Santos and Jutes Templo started their doughnut shop in July 2005. The couple’s penchant for food and sweets encouraged them to venture into the business and establish their first shop along Katipunan Avenue in Quezon City.

The 5-year old business won over huge followers from the students studying in the area.

In 5 years, Cello’s Doughnuts and Dips now has 5 branches (Taft, SM North EDSA, Alabang Town Center, and Davao, aside from the original Katipunan outlet).

Aside from the letter doughnuts, Cello's also has C-shaped doughnuts for easier dipping, and pillow doughnuts--soft, tiny, square-shaped bread that's perfect for a bite.

The shop can also top the doughnuts with vanilla or chocolate ice cream, some whipped cream, and a sprinkling of powdered toppings for an added treat.

And to round out the sweet indulgence, the shop also offers doughnut dips in flavors like Toblerone, Nutella, Dark Belgian Chocolate, Dulce de Leche, and White Chocolate Strawberry. -- Report from Nikki delos Santos, abs-cbnNEWS.com
