MANILA, Philippines - Why dream of a white Christmas when you can have one with a more relevant color? This year, let’s celebrate a green Christmas with these eco-friendly gift suggestions from "Umagang Kay Ganda".
Cardboard speakers
Time Magazine included these portable cardboard speakers in their list of the Top 50 Inventions for 2009. These are made from durable recycled paper, have fewer electronic components, and can be folded flat when not in use.
Water Clock
Just add water. That’s all you have to do to get this digital desktop clock up and running. Even more amazing is that it can also run on moist soil which means you can grow your own little garden in the plastic pots.
Mighty Wallets
These lightweight wallets are a lot stronger than they look. Made from the Tyvek (same material used in express mail envelopes) and recycled water and milk bottles, these wallets are tear-resistant and waterproof, too.
Wine Bottle Lamp
You can buy or better yet make your own lamp shade from your old wine bottles and strings of LED lights.
Sun Jar
Envious of Natasha Bedingfield’s “pocketful of sunshine”? Here’s something better: a jar full of sunshine! These medium-sized jars contain solar cells that collect sunlight to power its LED lights at night. Instead of a switch, the jars have sensors which automatically detect darkness and activate the light.
Let the holiday season be a venue to raise awareness for our environment. Have a merry green Christmas this December!
Details and pricing are available at Quirks Novelties and Curiosities, 3/L Power Plant Mall and 5/L Shangri-La Mall.
