MANILA, Philippines – Twenty-six runners from the Philippines are all set to participate in the ING New York City Marathon on November 7 in support of the Knowledge Channel Foundation, Inc.’s (KCFI) “KaRUNungan 2010: Run for Knowledge” project.
The “Runners for Knowledge” will be helping the foundation generate awareness and support for its educational media programs.
The 26 “Runners for Knowledge” include KCFI President Rina Lopez-Bautista, her son Daniel Lopez Layug, Bea Lopez-Puno, SkyCable chief operating officer Carlo Katigbak and corporate lawyer Eric Puno, and marathon veterans Jayme Pizarro of “The Bull Runner” and Coach Rio dela Cruz.
Other runners participating are: ABS-CBN Digital Consumer Devices head Johnny Sy, Bayantrade President Dante Briones, Leah Caringal, Jun Cruz, Mariel Cruz, Mayda Custodio, Deo Custodio, Noel Dela Merced, Rina Samson, Patrick Gan, Hannah Gan, Michele Chan, Lora Tansengco, Butch Tansengco, Michelline Suarez, Melody Yapson, Nori Poblador, Mesh Villanueva and Monty Papa.
Runners’ family, friends and supporters can show their support by pledging $1 (or its peso equivalent) for every kilometer the participants will finish in the marathon.
The New York City Marathon is a major annual marathon (42.195 km) whose course runs through all five boroughs of New York City. It is one of the largest marathons in the world, with 43,659 finishers in 2009.
The event is sponsored by financial group Internationale Nederlanden Groep (ING), which is why it is called the ING New York City Marathon.
KaRUNungan 2010 is just one of KCFI’s project aimed at addressing the continuing learning and resource gaps in the Philippine education system.
KCFI is a non-profit organization whose primary mission is to provide equal access to quality education through the use of television.
KCFI runs the Knowledge Channel, the only curriculum-based cable TV channel in the country based on the standards of the Department of Education.
