Miner to start airborne survey of Leyte site

Business World

PHILIPPINE Metals, Inc. has started an airborne survey over its Taurus project in Leyte to define targets for the mine, the Canadian-led miner said in a statement.

“We are very pleased to announce that we are beginning the airborne survey. This will be the first time that such a technologically advanced survey has been flown over the entire project area,” Philippine Metals President Marshall Farris said in the statement.

“We are quite optimistic that the use of this cost-effective geophysical survey could potentially lead to the discovery of multiple highly prospective massive sulphide targets on the project,” he added.

The survey is expected to be completed by January 2011, with results to be processed by February 2011.

The miner has an ongoing drilling program at its Taurus project, a 9,897-hectare tenement believed by the company to contain massive deposits of copper sulphide.

Last January, the miner said it would secure as much as $8 million in investments through a share sale to fund property payments, exploration projects in the Philippines, and general working capital. -- KAM
