MANILA, Philippines - The Christmas season is generally characterized by lots of food -- whether it be at an office party, a high school reunion or an intimate dinner with the family.
It is, no doubt, the most wonderful time of the year, as a popular song goes. People get to sit back, relax and enjoy good food at the company of friends and relatives.
For some, however, there's the challenge of preparing the Christmas meal on top of dressing up for the much-anticipated get-together.
With the Christmas rush, it's hard to find time to come up with a menu, buy ingredients and spend time in the kitchen.
Fortunately for those who can't cook to save their life, several restaurants are offering holiday set menus -- from succulent steak dinners todelightful meals by the Taal lake in Tagaytay.
The Establishment, for one, is offering a special Christmas fondue from December 17 to January 11, 2011 to celebrate the season.
During that period, the restaurant is also having a 4-course themed holiday menu, which can be viewed at their website.
Ready-to-eat meals
For those who prefer to eat at home without having to cook, there are countless offerings of Christmas treats and dishes in the metro -- from pine tree-shaped cookies to hearty meals such as paella.
These can be found everywhere -- from malls and food bazaars to restaurants -- and are sold at reasonable prices.
Among those that sell home-cooked Christmas food is Lola Maria restaurant in Mandaluyong City. It has yuletide specialties for takeout such as canapes, chicken relleno, beef morcon, and brazo de mercedes.
Ready-to-eat meals such as these are also ideal for potluck events and gatherings on short notice.
With these offerings, one need not be a kitchen slave to come up with a delicious Christmas meal.
Happy holidays, everyone!
