MANILA, Philippines - The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) is set to do a second review of some controversial scenes from “Father Jejemon.”
MTRCB chairman Grace Poe-Llamanzares issued the order after the agency received complaints that some scenes were “violative of Catholic sensibilities.”
In particular, they were complaining a scene that shows the consecrated host falling on the cleavage of a woman. Another is the consecrated host getting stuck in a woman’s dentures.
"Due to the feedback we received regarding the trailer of Father Jejemon, I have ordered a second review of the scene in the movie being questioned. Please note that the MTRCB board is given the autonomy to decide what rating to prescribe,” she said.
“As chairman I'm bound to respect the independent view of the majority of the members in a committee review. The chairman, however, will order a second review if there's a credible opposition to the material," Llamanzares added.
Dolphy’s "Father Jejemon," an entry to the Metro Manila Film Festival, tells the story of a modern priest assigned to a place called “Parmbil.” His life turns upside down after he was accused of molesting a child.
In an earlier interview, Dolphy shared that for the first time, in his decades-old career, he is portraying the role of a priest.
"’Yon na lang ang role na hindi ko nagagampanan, pari. Naalok sa akin 'yan ng uncle ko na pari na namatay na," Dolphy said.
