MANILA, Philippines – An explosive device went off at Angelika dela Cruz’s family home in Malabon on Saturday, in what was perceived by the actress’s father as politically motivated attack, “The Buzz” reported Sunday.

No one was hurt when a group of unidentified men lobbed the explosive device at the front gate of their home around 2 a.m., the report said.

Ernie dela Cruz, Angelika’s dad, revealed that he has been receiving death threats through text messages ever since he won in this year’s barangay elections.

Tapos kahapon (Saturday) iba naman kaya medyo nakakanerbiyos,” Ernie, a barangay captain, said.

The loud explosion also destroyed a neighboring home’s glass windows, according to Ernie.

Angelika was not home when the incident occurred. Her mom and younger sister, child star Mika dela Cruz, were there when the explosion took place.

Ernie believes that it was politically motivated attack.

He said: “Sa tingin ko may pulitika na involve.

He said they are now taking extra precautions as investigators continue to look into the incident.

Siguradong mawawala ako bago ako makaupo,” he said.

He also made this appeal: “Sana huwag kaming takutin kasi medyo siyempre gusto namin katahimikan at paglilingkod lang naman tayo.”
