MANILA, Philippines - For cash-strapped Filipinos who want a change of scenery this holiday season, here are 3 places where kids and adults can have fun without leaving a hole in the pocket.

With its lush green lawn and trees, Luneta or the Rizal Park in Manila is a popular hangout for those who are looking for some family bonding time.

Here, people can hold picnics, fly kites, take pictures, rest on the benches or on the grass, or take a stroll for free.

Mas maganda dito kaysa sa mall (It's better to go here than to the mall)," Ronald Climaco, one of Luneta's patrons, told ABS-CBN News.

To encourage more visitors, the park has also come up with a number of attractions to make it a one-stop holiday destination. There's the kalesa (horse-drawn carriage) and train rides, which are priced at P20 and P50 per child and adult, respectively.

The huge colorful slides, is ideal for kids who want to play and meet new friends in the park, while the dancing fountain provides entertainment for visitors of all ages.

Parents and guardians should be careful with their children, however. With about a million people visiting Luneta, kids may get lost in the crowd.

Still, authorities in the park stressed that security has been improved with the deployment of personnel and the installment of CCTV equipment.

Aside from Luneta, other low-cost holiday hangouts include the Quezon City Memorial Circle, where people can ride bikes, do some jogging, and eat good food.

In Quezon City, there's also the La Mesa Eco Park and Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife for those who want to have an experience of nature in the metro.

Entrance fees in La Mesa Eco Park are at P50 (adult) and P20 (children), while P8 (adult) and P5 (children) are charged at Ninoy Aquino Parks and Wildlife. -- abs-cbnNEWS.com, report from Maan Macapagal, ABS-CBN News
