MANILA, Philippines – While most Filipinos are not yet into pole dancing, acclaimed artist and production designer Christina Dy puts so much passion in the art and sees it beyond just an exercise.

Speaking to ANC’s “Tease” on Tuesday, Dy said pole dancing is something which one can use to release all of one's inhibitions and just be oneself.

“I was an awkward girl [before] and I was 20 pounds overweight . I think with the pole, it kind of released all your inhibitions and wilder side,” she said.

According to Dy, they are trying to promote women empowerment through pole dancing. Through the art, one can be fully comfortable and take charge of one's own body and not be ashamed of it.

She, however, admitted that it is not easy to get these statements across people's understanding.

“It’s hard. Kasi our very first gig...in Magnet, and it was like ‘take off your clothes’ or when Mike and I were performing, ‘make out na lang kayo.’ That was our first gig, but after that, they realized, ay hindi pala pang FHM to,” Dy shared.

Dy revealed that pole dancing is just gaining its momentum here in the Philippines, thus there is a clamor for classes and workshops among those gaining interest.

She, however, said that in the international arena, it has been there for quite a long time and a lot of people has been patronizing it already.

Asked on how competitive the art is, Dy shared that her group is actually trying to get into international competitions.

“Actually we are trying to get it into the Olympics. But so far we have international competitions and there’s one in Tokyo in December,” she shared. She also called on the public to support them as they represent the country.
