MANILA, Philippines (UPDATED) – The Movie and Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) has given Dolphy’s “Father Jejemon” a general patronage (GP) rating after its second review.

According to a source of ABS-CBN News, MTRCB’s Father Nick Cruz, RVQ Productions’ Father Larry Faraon and healing priest Father Fernando Suarez were among those who deliberated on the merits of the film.

It was Father Suarez’s congregation that complained about a scene that showed a priest accidentally dropping the host between a woman's breasts as she received communion during mass.

Another scene showed the host getting snagged in the false teeth of a communicant.

The Archdiocese of Cebu also appealed to remove the contentious scenes, but it clarified that it is not joining calls to ban the movie.

Meanwhile, the King of Comedy heaved a sigh of relief after learning the MTRCB’s rating.

He said he was worried over what could happen to his movie, probably his last, due to the controversies, prompting him to voluntarily remove scenes that were deemed deeply offensive to the Catholics.

The red carpet premiere of the movie will push through Wednesday night after the board has given its go signal.

Support for “Father Jejemon”

Amid the tight competition among the Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) entries, “Si Agimat at si Enteng Kabisote” lead stars Vic Sotto and Sen. Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. called on the public to support “Father Jejemon.”

"I’m sure he’ll be okay. Alam mo naman si Dolphy, fighter yun eh," Sotto said.

MTRCB chairman Grace Poe-Llamanzares also made the same appeal to the public.

Meanwhile, a grateful Dolphy thanked the entertainment industry, which he loves for half a century.

"Lahat ng nasa showbiz mahal ko. Retired na nga ako sabi ko eh, magkakaroon pa ba ako ng kaaway? Pari pa ang makakaaway ko? He he he," said the Comedy King.

Even if his movie won’t hit the No. 1 spot, he said he will still be overjoyed as long as it will make the Filipinos happy. –Report from Mario Dumaual, ABS-CBN News
