MANILA, Philippines – Actor Marvin Agustin is set to take time out from the shooting of “Tanging Ina Mo, Last na ‘To” movie to go Belgium and be part of the jury of one of the most interesting festivals in the world, the Brussels International Independent Film Festival.

Agustin shared that in the recent Cinemalaya, a director approached him and invited him to be among the jury.

The actor was astounded by what the director said and found the invitation hard to believe.

“‘Yong director ng Brussels Film Festival pumunta dito sa Pilipinas for Cinemalaya tapos sabi niya ‘We will invite you to be in the jury. Hindi ako makapaniwala, hindi ko masabi sa kahit kaninong tao baka masabi nagyayabang ako,” Agustin said.

According to the actor, the only time he believed the request was when he got the formal invitation a week and a half after.

Agustin confessed he takes pride to be the very first Filipino actor that will be part of the international jury of the competition.

The 37th International Festival of Independent Film will showcase 70 feature and short films and it will be represented by 23 countries.

Two Filipino films are featured in the festival: “Donor” which is part of the international competition and Joel Lamangan’s “Sigwa” which is not part of the competition.

According to the festival’s Web site: “The Philippine film “Sigwa” (Rage) gives us a vision of the brutal repression that shook the country in the 70's under martial law of the [late] dictator [Ferdinand] Marcos, while the Filipino filmmaker Mark Meily offers the world premiere of his film “Donor” which portrays a young woman (Meryl Soriano) who becomes an organ donor to leave his miserable destiny.”

The event will be held in Brussels from November 2 to 7. - Showbiz News Ngayon
