HANOI - The Japanese government has approved a P21.4-billion loan for a road maintenance project in the Philippines, MalacaƱang announced Saturday.

This was revealed after a bilateral meeting between Japanese Prime Minister Naoto Kan and President Benigno Aquino III at the sidelines of the ASEAN summit in Hanoi.

Communications Secretary Ricky Carandang said Japan also agreed to find ways to improve the chances of Filipino nurses to find employment in Japan.

The Philippines, for its part, said it will support Japan's candidacy for a non-permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council in 2016.
