Last year’s champion Rubilen Amit absorbed a heart-breaking 5-9 loss to Ga Young Kim of Korea in the semifinals of the 2010 Women’s World 10-Ball Championship at the Robinson’s Galleria. Ga,
the former three-time world champion and two-time US Open winner, waxed hot in the early goings as she notched a commanding 6-1 lead but Amit won three straight racks to trim the gap to 4-6.The Filipina master, however, committed an unforced error in the 14th rack, leaving the Korean cue master to pull away.
“It was a bad preparation. Maybe it’s not meant for me. I’ve done my best and I want to thank all the Filipinos who watched and support not only me but the whole tournament,” said the 29-year-old Man-daue City pride.
“But it’s a good experience for me before going to China for the Asian Games,” added Amit, a member of the star-studded national billiards and snooker team to the Asian Games in Guangzhou scheduled next month.
In the other semifinal match, crowd-favorite Jasmin Ouschan of Austria hurdled past Kelly Fisher of Ireland, 9-7, to arrange a championship showdown with Ga.
Ouschan went on to win the championship crown by thumping Ga, 10-6.
The champion in the tournament sanctioned by the World Pool Association took home $20,000 cash purse while the runner-up got $9,000 consolation prize.
Amit and Fisher, on the other hand, settled for $5,000 consolation prize.
